During the 1919-21 War of Independence rebel
volunteers under Michael Collins sought refuge
inthispublichouse.‘The Maid of Erin’, as it was then
called, was used by sympathetic clergy so that the
rebels might receive the sacraments and make their
confession in secret rooms. The small size of the
room and its proximity to the Pro-Cathedral led to
it becoming known locally as ‘The Confession Box’.
One of the smallest bars in Dublin, The Confession
Box is situated in the heart of Dublin in the shadow
of the Pro-Cathedral and near the Spire and Luas.
The authentic cosy Dublin pub is frequented by
local Dublin regulars and many repeat visitors from
afar. Feel at home as you relax or join in the banter
and craic. This historic pub was recently renovated and is run by the friendliest of
Dublin bar staff who promise an enjoyable and comfortable visit. With coverage
of major TV sport events and great weekend live music all tastes are catered for.
Open Mon-Thu 10.30am-11.30pm, Fri & Sat until 12.30am, Sun 12.30pm-11pm.
